The Total Tragedy of a Girl named Hamlet by Erin Dionne

January 20, 2011

Describe a subplot and explain how it related to the bigger plot in the story.

There is a subplot that can realte to the bigger plot in my IRB, The Total Tragedy of a Girl named Hamlet, by Erin Dionne.8th grader, Hamlet Kennedy (named after Shakespeare's play), is the misfit of a renaissance-obsessed family. So no wonder, at the dinnertable her sister, Desdemona (a kid genius) talkes about past thoeries of Shakespare and renaissance with her parents. Meanwhile, Hamlet is assigned a project at school on the Globe Theater in history and English. Her Shakespearian parents and insanly smart sister ruin Hamlet's life at school.

Blog 10:Continued Chasing Orion- Katheryn Lasky

Do you relate to the main character in your book?  How is he or she like or not like you?  Compare and contrast the main character's life with yours.

I can relate to the main character in my IRB, Georgie Mason. She is always worring about the wefare of other people, mainly her brother. Similarly, I always tend to worry about people a little too much and just wind up annoying them like Georgie. Now she is nicknamed Saint Georgie, yet she dosn't feel like a saint because she feels like she was unable to help her brother Emmett and her polio-infected friend Phyllis.Just like her I also sometimes feel like I've let someone down.
